Just for today - from the book Morning Meditations by Danielle North
* Begin this meditation by focusing on your mind, become aware of the thoughts in your mind and, just for today, let them be. Thoughts will come and go, swirling like leaves in the breeze; just for today, let them simply be the movements of the mind. *
Thoughts are constantly in motion: it's what the mind does. Whether the mind feels chaotic or peaceful, let the movement of the mind be the movement of the mind. Just for today. If your mind is highly active, observe it being active. Allow it to be active and observe the movement of the mind simply being the movement of the mind.
Just for today. Observe that you are not your mind. You have a mind but you are not your mind.
Now become aware of your emotions. What are you feeling? Simply observe and notice your emotions. Where do you feel these emotional energies? Do your emotions have colour or density or temperature? Are your emotions highly active or are they peaceful? Emotions want to move; it is what emotions do. In this moment, just for today simply notice that your emotions are energy. Observe your emotions changing moment by moment and allow them to move and flow, Just for today, observe that you are not your emotions. You have emotions, but you are not your emotions.
Be aware that you have a mind and emotions, but you are not your mind and emotions, That whatever your mind and emotions are doing you can still remain peaceful in your being. Even if the mind and emotions are highly active you can still continue to be peaceful.
Breathe it in
Let it out
Breathe it in
Let it go.
Breathe it in
Let it out
Breathe it in
Let it go.
Breathe it in
Let it out
Breathe it in
Let it go.
Return to your natural breathing now, letting your mind and emotions flow freely, ever moving, ever changing. Take a deep inhale and an easy exhale. When you are ready return to the room, safe in the knowledge that we can live our lives moment by moment, day by day.
